Ashcroft Is An Embarrassment

Ashcroft has released his memoir Never Again: Securing America and Restoring Justice in which he launches an attack on findings of the 9/11 Commission. He is the only member of the Bush cabinet to do so.

During the hearings he selectively declassified top secret memos in an attempt to embarrass a member of the commission and lay blame for intelligence failures at the feet of the Democrats.

From UPI.com, " The day prior to Ashcroft's testimony, the man who had been acting FBI director throughout the summer of 2001, Thomas Pickard, told the commission that Ashcroft had told him during a briefing covering counter-terrorism that "he did not want to hear about this anymore," and had refused a request for additional funding for FBI counter-terrorist activities. "

Ashcroft's tactics were described as "unprincipled", and President Bush "personally repudiated Ashcroft's tactics in his sparring with the commission."

Shaun Waterman has the story at UPI.com.
